Day two of Storytellers 2023 came with a delightful twist - we were all split into groups and dispatched to eight different regions of the Maldives. The lucky ducks that we were, my group got to explore the serene Laamu region. And man, was it something!
Living the Local Life: A True Maldivian Experience
We stayed at this cosy guest house in Laamu, that felt so homey I could've sworn I lived there in a past life. The real cherry on top though? We had the privilege to lunch with a local family. Have you ever tasted authentic Maldivian fish curry? It's the kind of meal that sings a song to your taste buds - a melody you never forget.
And that wasn't the end of our local immersion. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we were treated to a traditional Maldivian dance at the guest house. Imagine a night filled with infectious music, hypnotic moves, and the kind of joy that only comes from sharing genuine connections.
By the end of the day, I was buzzing with experiences and exhaustion in equal measures. As my head hit the pillow, I could still taste the fish curry, hear the rhythm of the dance, and feel the warmth of the people.
